The incident took place around 4:30 p.m., Friday, April 19, when Westport officers were dispatched to Citibank on a report of a female attempting to deposit a fraudulent check into the account of a third person, said the Westport Police.
Upon arrival, officers identified the woman as Xiara Bermudez of Queens. Officers learned Bermudez attempted to deposit the check at a branch in another town prior to coming to Westport, but left before any transaction took place, police said.
Officers asked Bermudez to place her hands behind her back so she could be handcuffed, but she proceeded towards the exit and a brief struggle ensued, they added.
Officers were able to gain control of Bermudez and transported her to headquarters where she was charged with interfering with an officer, forgery, and attempt to commit larceny.
Bermudez was released after posting $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 29.
